FITZGERALD: Grace Mae Fitzgerald of Birtle passed away peacefully at the Russell Hospital at the age of 95 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Geraldine and husband Craig and grandchildren Darcy and Gillian. Grace was predeceased by her husband Marcus in 1970. Born on May 7, 1914 in Portage la Prairie, Grace Morrison moved with her family to Weslaco, Texas. After high school she furthered her education at Junior College and the University of Texas receivingher science degree. Her career path included teaching, accounting and working in an aircraft engineering department during World War II. In 1950 Grace married Marcus Fitzgerald returning to Manitoba and farming south of Birtle. Grace was very involved in the United Church Sunday School, UCW and Eastern Star acting as treasurer for many years. In the mid 60,s the Birtle Branch of the FoxwarrenCredit union was opened with Grace as manager. Over the years the branch expanded and Grace continued her work until retirement. In later years Grace moved to Pioneer Lodge and then to Sunnyside Personal Care Home in 2005. Grace remained an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting afghans, crossword puzzles and visits from family and friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Sunnyside for their kindness and dedication in caring for Grace. Sincere thanks to all Graces friends for their commitment, consideration and faithful devotion over the years. A funeral service was held in Birtle United Church on March 13 with Heather Robbins officiating. Interment followed at the Birtle Cemetery. If desired donations in memory of Grace may be made to a charity of ones choice. Braendle-Bruce Funeral Service was in care of arrangements.
